Walking Tune
by Percy Aldridge Grainger
Arranged for Clarinet Choir
by Scott D. Farquhar
Score & Parts
Eb Sopranino; 1st, 2nd, & 3rd Bb Soprano; Eb Alto; Bb Bass; Eb Contra-Alto
This piece is based on a little tune I made on a 3 days’ walk in the Scottish Highlands (in 1900) as a hummed accompaniment to my tramping feet. It was worked out and scored in 1905. — P.A.G.
Grainger originally scored this piece for “wind five-some” (flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, and bassoon) and then later “dished up” the piece for piano. This arrangement for clarinet choir is derived from the solo piano version and was originally scored in April of 1994. Subsequent revisions were made in 2001 and then in 2006 for the Barnhouse publication. — S.D.F.
